Ukraine’s Guns of August

August 2022 may go down in history as the month Ukraine took the war to Russia and challenged Moscow’s dominance over the illegally annexed Crimean peninsula.

Bold precision strikes against munitions depots, airstrips, and the headquarters of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet have reshaped the narrative of the war, weakened Russia’s capabilities and sense of invulnerability, and emboldened Ukrainian resolve.

The strikes of August also suggest something else: enhanced Ukrainian capabilities – either in the form of assets inside Crimea or enhanced long-range weapons systems — or perhaps both.

Ukraine’s guns of August are making their mark. On The Power Vertical Podcast this week, host Brian Whitmore speaks with veteran journalist Michael Weiss, who has been investigating Ukraine’s enhanced capabilities and what they mean.
