RUSSIA’S WAR ON EUROPE

Just days after Russian drones breached the airspace of Poland and Romania, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said NATO is “de facto” fighting a war with Russia by providing “both indirect and direct support” to Ukraine.

In response, NATO is beefing up its air defenses and European Defence Commissioner Andrius Kubilius plans to huddle with defence ministers in the coming week to discuss creating a “drone wall” along the EU’s eastern border.

The drone incursions come amid a broader sabotage campaign by Moscow across Europe that has targeted energy and navigation systems, cargo planes, and health service networks, just to name a few.

With its forces bogged down on the front in eastern Ukraine, Moscow appears to be lashing out, with stepped up attacks targeting civilians in Ukrainian cities and with what appears to be a major escalation in Europe.

On The Power Vertical Podcast this week, host Brian Whitmore speaks with Michael Carpenter, who served in the administration of former President Joe Biden as the National Security Council’s Senior Director for Europe as well as the US Ambassador to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe and James Sherr, Honorary Fellow at the International Center for Defense and Security in Tallinn.
