War, Mobilization, and Blowback

Vladimir Putin’s mobilization runs into a snag as Russians take to the streets and draft-age men flee the country in massive numbers.

Moscow’s sham referenda, conducted at gunpoint in four occupied Ukrainian regions wrap up with Putin planning to formally annex those territories this week amid widespread international condemnation.

Suspicious explosions damage the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines in Europe in apparent acts of sabotage, heightening fears of the continent’s energy security as winter approaches.

And meanwhile, the war grinds on with Ukraine pushing ahead with its offensive to liberate Russian-occupied territory in the east and south.

On The Power Vertical Podcast this week, host Brian Whitmore unpacks the week’s developments with Lt. Gen. (Ret) Ben Hodges, the former commander of U.S. Army Europe who today serves as a Senior Advisor at Human Rights First, and James Sherr, a Senior Fellow at the Estonian Foreign Policy Institute at the International Center for Defense and Security.
